Luxury car spotted in sky

Car dealership shares their idea of really thinking outside the box.

“Did you see that car in the sky?”

These are just some of the many questions residents ask when passing a local car dealership situated on Main Reef road.

The Herald had to check it out and found it was a luxury car, Mercedes Benz SLK 350 mounted on the front of the dealership.

Aadil Hassen, Manager at Salaamat Motors explained to the Herald the idea was the brainchild of the owner, Imraan Chotia.

Chotia is known for his creative ideas and when his employees heard of his plan, they thought he would use a less expensive vehicle. To their surprise, Chotia’s choice was a luxury Mercedes Benz as mentioned earlier.

Pieter Bekker, Amos Maswanganyi and Manager Aadil Hassen.

According to him, Pieter Bekker, a metal contractor and Pieter Erasmus, an engineer orchestrated this together with Bekker’s personal assistant Amos Maswanganyi.

Bekker explained the vehicle was lifted up by using a crane. When asked how the SLK stays mounted in the air, Bekker said,

In the vehicle the whole floor and inside of the steel framework of the vehicle was welded in with four M36 metal bolts.”

Hassen added that Chotia removed the engine, suspension and gearbox of the car.

This was truly a rare site for the residents of Randfontein and surely a brilliant way of thinking outside the box.
