Four Randfontein police officers received medals for 10 years worth of service to the residents in the Krugersdorp cluster under which Randfontein falls.
The medals were handed out in official police fashion at the annual medal parade. The parade was held at Hoërskool Jan de Klerk in Krugersdorp.
The medal parade serves to give police men and women recognition for their service within the police.
The medals handed out were for 10, 20, and 30 years, respectively. All the officers who attended the auspicious event were dressed fully in police uniform except for the four detectives that received awards for 30 years of service.
The ceremony began with the Krugersdorp cluster police band who played in the age old military fashion while walking in their drill lines. There were three platoons in total who did the drill in perfect synchronisation.
Krugersdorp cluster commander, Major General Anna Mateisi as well as Brigadier Dalipkimar Baijnath station commander of Krugersdorp police attended the ceremony.
In her speech, major general Mateisi thanked all the officers who received awards and also those who didn’t for their service to the Krugersdorp cluster and South Africa at large.
On the local front, Randfontein station commander, Colonel Marius Smith attended the ceremony in support of his officers. Zaheer Gangat, chairperson for the Randfontein Community Policing Forum (CPF) represented the CPF at the ceremony.
Randfontein Police spokesperson, Captain Appel Ernst, served as the aide-de-camps to Major General Mateisi and Brigadier Baijnath.
The four officers from Randfontein who received medals were:
• Sergeant Monnahela
• Sergeant Masenya
• Sergeant Molete
• Sergeant Molokomme
These officers all received 10 year awards.
