A woman allegedly was physically assaulted and verbally abused several times by a security guard in Village Square Mall recently.
Wendy Meyer, 21, claimed the incident occurred on Tuesday 18 August.
Meyer, who has extremely bad eyesight, explained she went to Pep’s cellphone store inside the mall to return a cellphone. The cashier allegedly said to her this could not be done. She then insisted to see the store manager. The cashier said the manager was not in, but Meyer insisted to wait for her, so she sat down on the floor. The cashier then rushed out of the store and called security.
The security guard allegedly approached Meyer, grabbing her breasts to lift her from the floor.
The security guard then gave her a hateful look and then pushed her into a corner. Meyer claimed she responded in self-defence by pushing him away, but he hit his head against a display cabinet.
When she tried to run away, he allegedly gave chase and slapped her on her left ear. She ran to her mother who was waiting outside in the car.
When Meyer and her mother went back into the mall, the same security guard saw them and once again allegedly hit her on the same ear. The mother allegedly also was assaulted by the security guard.
Meyer and her mom claimed they attempted to enter the cellphone store to get some answers regarding the incident but the staff allegedly closed the doors on them. Security officers then took Meyer and her mom to a security office, where they allegedly were pushed around by seven security officers.
One of the officers allegedly told Meyer’s mother, “Shut up white B!@#h.”
The first security guard who assaulted Meyer allegedly told her, “I am going to get you.”
He allegedly also showed her that he would cut her throat. After some discussions, they all decided to go to the police station. At the car, they pushed Meyer and her mother into their vehicle.
One of the other security officers allegedly told Meyer’s mom she was an “Apartheid B!@#h.”
Meyer and her mother opened a case of assault against the security officer.
The Randfontein Police is yet to comment on the matter.
The Herald is awaiting comment from the cellphone store manager, as well as head of security and center management.
