Pedestrian hit-and-killed in horror crash

‘Paramedics found the dismembered body of the pedestrian 500 metres away.’

A man believed to be in his 30s was killed after he was hit by a bakkie on the N12 outside of Fochville over the weekend.

According to ER24 spokesperson, Russel Meiring, “Paramedics, along with other services, responded to scene, and on arrival found the bakkie parked on the side of the road. The entire front section of the vehicle had been crushed upon impact.

On inspection, paramedics found the dismembered body of the pedestrian 500 metres away from the bakkie. Unfortunately nothing could be done for the patient and he was declared dead on scene.

“The driver of the light motor vehicle sustained only minor injuries. He was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital for further assessment.

“It is understood that the driver of the bakkie failed to notice the pedestrian crossing the dark road.”

Local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
