Droogeheuwel blaze: ‘It took us the whole night’

'We are looking at this as a non-police matter' – Police.

Firefighters have been working tirelessly and finished just before 12 noon (Thursday 13 August) extinguishing the Droogeheuwel blaze which started on Wednesday night.

Seun Lethoo, Pretty Sejamoholo and Orapeleng were just three of the brave firefighters who assisted in putting out the blaze.

The three explained to the Herald they worked around the clock to make sure the fire was contained and extinguished. It is believed that firefighters were on scene since approximately 1am this morning.

After the last smoldering pieces of wood was extinguished, the fire brigade team that tended to the fire finally left to rest.

There have been no reported injuries from the fire and the cause of the fire is still unknown.

According to Captain Appel Ernst, spokesperson for the Randfontein Police,

We are looking at this as a non-police matter. Complainants could not prove any element of crime regarding the incident.”
