Be our eyes and ears – CPF

CPF tells residents to get involved, here's how ...

The Randfontein Sector 4 Community Policing Forum (CPF) told residents to do as little as communicate possible dangers in the area to make a dent in crime in their recent community meeting.

The sector 4 CPF covers the inner areas of Randfontein.

Areas that fall under the sector 4 CPF include Homelake, Robinson, Greenhills, Culemborg Park, Randgate, Helikon Park, Eikepark and Randpoot.

If you see a car that doesn’t belong in the area for example, you don’t have to confront the driver all you need to do is send us a WhatsApp and we will send people who can assist, people who are trained to deal with those kinds of situations,” Stanley Miley, chairperson of the sector 4 CPF said.

During the meeting, members of the CPF and the rest of the community attested to how well the WhatsApp system works.

Miley said there are over 3 000 people on the CPF WhatsApp groups.

“This creates an intricate web of alert individuals who act as the eyes, ears, and voice of the CPF,” as Nattilly van der Westhuizen, Public Relations person for the CPF executive committee so aptly said.

She continued,

The most important thing about the CPF and community involvement is being the voice. Many times people are just the eyes and the ears but being the voice makes the difference. You might have a problem or find yourself in a situation but the only way we can help you and get others to help you is if you tell us what is happening,” she explained.

Miley also touched on crimes being reported and added an interesting take one police patrols. He conveyed to those present that crimes need to be reported no matter how small.

He explained that police get an incorrect statistic if the crimes are not reported because it is not a true reflection of what is happening in the area. As a result, he said, the cluster will not allocate as many police cars and personnel to particular areas because the area is technically seen as not being problematic in terms of crime.

The sector manager, Captain Nikki Theunisen attended the meeting and highlighted the problem crimes that have arisen in the area over the last month.

Problem crimes in sector 4:

• House breaking

• Car theft

• Theft out of car

• Drug related crimes
