R’fontein’s traffic women reach out to community

Masters informal settlement residents waited on hand and foot by traffic police officers.

The Randfontein Traffic police who people only come into contact with on the road when violating a law were snapped during a crime prevention project giving food and clothing to the needy.

The officers together with the Gauteng Department of Health as well as public safety treated residents of the masters informal settlement.

In the spirit of Women’s Day, all the officials and residents present were women. The project took place on Tuesday.

Randfontein traffic officers took time off from fighting crime and cooked meals for women in the informal settlement. Before their brunch was served, an official from the Gauteng Department of Health spoke to the women about domestic violence and why it is important to report it as well as how to report it.

Once the formalities were done, pots of food were taken out and served.

Traffic officers dished food for each of the women and children who stood in line. An officer from public safety treated the women from masters to glasses of soft drinks organised for the project.

Residents of the informal settlement were waited on hand and food by traffic police and public safety officers.
