Hijacked meat truck recovered

'When the truck was found, the cargo had vanished.'

A truck carrying meat worth almost R200 000 that allegedly was hijacked in Alberton last Friday was recovered by a tracking company near Randfontein the following day.

The truck was found at the Caltex garage in Brandvlei on the N14.

According to Johan Rheeder, one of the members of Capital Air Security Company who had found the truck, “There were documents in the truck that suggested the truck was carrying approximately R198 000 worth of meat.

When the truck was found, there was no sign of the cargo.”

Jan van Vuuren, another member of Capital Air who helped retrieve the truck said they found the truck through GPS coordinates.

According to Rheeder, “It is believed the truck driver was found in Carletonville, allegedly locked in the boot of a car between Friday and possibly Saturday afternoon.”
