Victims of abuse empowered

Local NGO gets food and paint.

The Rural Institute for Education and Training (Riet) together with Legal Aid Krugersdorp had a celebration in commemoration of Mandela Day.

Riet is a non-government welfare educational organisation dedicated to the promotion and protection of the rights of women and their dependent children. It is committed to the dignity and development of women and children regardless of age, race, creed, socioeconomic status, physical or mental capabilities or sexual orientation,” Vinelle Madi, Riet human resources manager explained.

The role of Riet is to protect and provide a safe, comfortable and supportive environment for women and children who are victims of domestic abuse. They do professional therapeutic interventions for such victims.

On Friday (17 July), just a day before national Mandela Day, Legal Aid Krugersdorp visited the institute and brought vegetables to give to those who seek refuge at the institute. They also gave the building a new look with a coat of paint they brought along.
