Fraudster gets four-year jail term

The man presented a fraudulent Edgars card for a purchase - police.

A 37-year-old man, James Sibusisu Manyathi, was found guilty of fraud and sentenced to four years imprisonment.

The accused was arrested on 3 January 2012 in the Village Mall when he presented a fraudulent Edgars card for a purchase. The purchase amount was approximately R2 500.

The very observant cashier did the necessary background check and then immediately informed the police about the suspect in the shop.

The suspect was arrested and it was established the card was cloned.

The suspect appeared in court and he then skipped bail. In July the accused was traced and re-arrested. The case was heard at the Randfontein Magistrates court and he was found guilty of fraud. The presiding magistrate was Ettiene van Niekerk and Vusi Mahlangu prosecuted on behalf of the state.

Her dedication and preparation in finalizing the investigation is commended. The National Prosecuting Authority is also applauded for their efforts in the fight against crime.
