Madiba Day: Kids dance Caribbean style for the elderly

Kids from Day Care Centre dance for 67 minutes for Vriendskap Tuiste.

Children from the Keen Buddies Day Care Centre’s based in Nomandi and Chamdor entertained the elderly from Vriendskap Tuiste for Mandela day.

Children aged between 5 and 6 years danced for 67 minutes to various songs, warming the hearts of the elderly. Maria Letsholo, owner of these Day Care Centre’s said they started practicing from May this year. They complemented the Caribbean theme by the girls’s bright yellow dresses and the boys wearing gold knee high pants.

These children all got taught about Mandela’s legacy and they still look up to him,” she said.

Millie Bell, a resident at the Vriendskapstuiste, said she thoroughly enjoyed the dancing, “It was beautiful and very special to watch the children dance. Mandela was a great person.”

The children performed non-stop and their amazing rhythm got the elderly tapping their feet and swaying from side-to-side.

That cold morning turned into a celebration of the youth, the elderly and a legacy of a man that taught the nation about freedom for all races in South Africa.
