Ngo Yamesti entertains and empowers the youth

NPO strives to keep children away from drugs and mischief.

The Ngo Yamesti organisation hosted a holiday programme at the Jabulani informal settlement in Wheatlands recently. Between 150 and 200 children enjoyed several activities.

Ngo Yamesti is a non-profitable organisation started in 2008 by Pauline Mokae based on the West Rand.

She said the aim of the organisation is to change the lives of individuals and families of all ages and backgrounds. Mostly underprivileged people from a poverty-alleviation programme benefit from this organisation.

The programme was created to educate and empower these children, and allow them to grow. The aim is to guide them in the bigger world once they go back home,” said Mokae.

The programme teaches children all kinds of sport.

The organisation also boosts a feeding project and care centre where about 80 children go after school to have lunch and do their homework with the help of tutors.

Children from Toekomsrus, Mohlakeng, Wheatlands, Randgate, Jabulani and its surrounding areas benefited from this holiday programme. They played games and participated in sport, but the programme also added educational value.

Ngo Yametsi also involves various churches in the programme.

“The programme surely was a great success, thanks to Portia Mokae from Ngo Yametsi and various NG Churches for their help and contributions,” Mokae added.
