A wee bit too much

Violence erupts as business asks people not to urinate against walls.

Employees and owners of a local vehicle repair shop next to a taxi rank in the CBD fear for their lives following an incident of violence recently.

Since the business opened its doors in 2012, they allegedly have been experiencing constant problems with public indecency and members of the public urinating against the walls of their property.

According to the owners everything started on that particular day (Wednesday 14 July) when an employee asked the community members please to refrain from urinating against the walls as it results to a terrible smell and is a very ugly sight.

The employee said, “This problem is just getting worse. The cement pavements are black from all the urine. It is extremely unhygienic, seeing that these members eat their lunch there, children play there and our customers have to witness this unacceptable behaviour.”

After the employee had approached a group of people, they allegedly became angry and at one stage about 20 people were surrounding the employee. Two of the culprits allegedly even exposed themselves to two of the employees. The employee claimed to have tried to explain to the angry group of people that there are public toilets situated right there but they argued, “Why should we pay to use these toilets if we can do it for free?”

The men then allegedly approached the owner, Shani Sihlangu and his wife. Three of the men allegedly pointed firearms at them, attacked them and pushed them to the floor.

The owners claimed local security company Mapogo Security and the police did come out, but after they had left, the culprits called nine other men to urinate in front of them and against the walls of the business – one of them allegedly just missing the employee’s shoes.

A group then allegedly gathered and started discussing plans to get revenge on this business.

The employee told the Herald, “We now fear for what they are capable of doing to the business and its employees.”

Randfontein Police spokesperson Captain Appel Ernst is yet to confirm the incident.
