Netball stars receive major donation

'We thank RMA for the generous sponsorship and we intend on doing them proud by performing at our very best.'

Netball stars from Laerskool Glenharvie Combined in Westonaria now are decked out proudly in new uniforms thanks to a kind donation from Rand Mutual Assurance (RMA).

The company, which administers workers’ compensation claims, sponsored the team with tracksuits, netball dresses, netball shoes and sports bags.

The girls are very dedicated and the sponsorship has meant so much to them as many of the team members would not have been able to afford to pay for the kit themselves. Having a professional kit means they can walk onto the court with confidence and dignity, and having the correct shoes will reduce injuries,” noted Nadine Putter, their delighted coach.

“We thank RMA for the generous sponsorship and we intend on doing them proud by performing at our very best.”

The school’s under 19 team is a developmental team that includes players as young as 15. “We are pleased to say that we are currently first in the West Rand C league and expect to move into the B league shortly. This league is made up of older players and so it gives the girls fantastic exposure to play at a higher level. It has been a great learning curve for them. Three of the players even qualified for the Gauteng trials,” said Nadine.

We hope to help the team members develop their skills and talent so they may get bursaries when the time comes for them to apply to universities,” added Putter.

Jay Singh, chief executive officer of RMA, explained the company chose the school because many of the pupils’ parents are employed at the Sibanye Gold Kloof mine.

“We believe in showing care and compassion to the communities which we serve and part of that is ensuring that young people strive to succeed in whatever they put their mind to,” Singh added.
