UPDATE: Homelake murder victim identified
Girl, 6, witnesses father's murder.
A six-year-old girl witnessed her father being murdered by two armed suspects in their home in Homelake at around 9pm on Friday (3 July).
The man, 42, has been identified as Marius Smit.
According to Captain Appel Ernst, spokesperson for the Randfontein Police, “A 42-year-old man was killed and his father injured. We are investigating a case of murder. We have not identified any suspect(s) so far.”
According to Zaheer Gangat, chairperson of the CPF executive committee, “The man was murdered in his home.
Two suspects allegedly entered the house while the family was sitting at the table. The suspects had balaclavas on and both pulled out firearms.
“The man got up from the table and went to them. They shot him and left without taking anything. The victim’s six-year-old daughter witnessed the ordeal,” he continued.
“A neighbour alerted the CPF and we called EMS, but when we arrived on scene within minutes, he already was dead.”
