I love my job — car guard

R'fontein car guard couldn't be more happier.

Stephanus Grobler, 43, a car guard from Randfontein spoke to the Herald about his love for his job.

Grobler was spotted guarding cars in front of the Greenhills Spar on 2 July and explained he works in different places around town daily.

He recently became a Supervisor, which means they meet up every morning and he then sends others out in different areas.

Born in Krugersdorp, Grobler has been working as a car guard for about 10 months and before that he worked as a motor mechanic. He is not married but supports two children that is not his own. Grobler says he wakes up at 6am every morning and works right through to 8pm.

“In a good month I earn between R300 to R400 and R95 in a bad month” Grobler said.

Security guards according to Grobler has to pay R20 a day to work in a designated area.

When it comes to customers Grobler said most people are friendly, there are a few that is unfriendly but he never gets angry at them.

When asked how he feels about his job, he said ” I love my job!”

He says that to him there is no downside to his job and he meets a lot of people, friends and even people from his school days. His humble demeanour speaks of a hard worker who never complains and lives life to the fullest.

On future plans he says he would love to go to the sea on holiday, alone, and have a peaceful time. He says he believes in peace and happiness is his life’s motto.

“You should live your life according to God’s will,” he added.
