Elderly man robbed when changing tyre

‘The incident took place on a busy road during the day’ — Police.

An elderly man was held at gunpoint while changing a tyre on the R559 towards Finsbury.

The incident took place on Friday 19 June at approximately 11.45am.

According to Captain Appel Ernst, spokesperson for the Randfontein Police, “It is alleged the victim, 61, had a flat tyre on his way to meet clients.

“The victim pulled over and was assisted in fixing the tyre. Allegedly he then was approached by four armed men who pointed firearms at him and robbed him of cash and his cellphone.

“The incident took place on a busy road during the day,” Ernst said.

No shots were fired and no injuries were sustained.

The investigating officer Warrant Officer Thabiso Duiker is urging anyone who might have seen this incident to contact him urgently on 011 278 8100.
