Driver was forced into the back of the vehicle and locked inside — police.

A 21-year-old driver of a courier company allegedly was hijacked while delivering goods on Thursday 18 June at 9am, police said.

According to Captain Appel Ernst, spokesperson for the Randfontein Police, “The driver was delivering goods in Cormorant Street in Helikonpark when he was approached by two unknown men. Allegedly both these men were armed. They forced the driver to the passenger seat and then drove off with the vehicle.

“The suspects then stopped in another street in the Helikonpark area where they allegedly offloaded the goods into a silver sedan. The driver was forced into the back of the delivery vehicle and locked inside.”

The devastated driver later was rescued when a resident responded to his calls for help.

The Vehicle Investigation Unit in Lenasia is investigating this incident.

Witnesses who have information regarding the hijacking are welcome to contact Captain Ernst on 011 278 8100.
