Murdered girl, 5, identified

Neighbour claims father is a drug user.

The little girl who was allegedly murdered by her father last Wednesday (10 June) in Aureus has been identified as Keandre Louw, a pupil of Toekomsrus Primary School.

According to a neighbor, Fazil Bhana, “The father was heavily involved in drugs, specifically Tik (methamphetamine). Drugs and unemployment is the reason for crime in our community.”

Police took the 29-year-old father into custody following her death.

“Police were called out to a scene in Aureus, Randfontein that day at approximately 9.40pm. Upon arrival they were shown the body of a 5-year-old victim,” Captain Appel Ernst, spokesperson for the Randfontein Police confirmed.

“The suspect was also on the scene and arrested. It is alleged the 5-year-old girl was murdered and that the suspect allegedly also tried to commit suicide,” Ernst added.

The suspect’s first court appearance was on 12 June.

Louw’s funeral took place today Thursday 18 June at 8am, just two days after national Youth Day. The funeral was sponsored by members of the Toekomsrus community. She will be buried in the Toekomsrus Cemetery.
