Police seize dagga and sword

Successful operation leads to numerous arrests.

Dangerous weapons and drugs were among the many things confiscated when approximately 300 law enforcement officers embarked on a special crime prevention operation in Randfontein recently.

According to Randfontein Police spokesperson, Captain Appel Ernst, “South African Police members from all over Gauteng including a K9 unit and Flying Squad; the South African National Defence Force (SANDF); local and provincial law enforcement and emergency personnel were deployed during this operation.

“Crime prevention was the main focus and the evening started with a thorough search and seizure operation in the Mohlakeng Hostel. Numerous arrests were made during this search and stolen goods were recovered.

“Illegal liquor premises were also closed and liquor seized. On conclusion of the search in the hostel, the surrounding areas were patrolled and stop and searches were conducted throughout the evening.”

This initiative had a positive impact on the crime in the Randfontein area as a whole and resulted in the following successes:

• 33 undocumented foreigners;

• One dealing in liquor without license;

• One possession of stolen property;

• One drunken driver were arrested;

• Counterfeit DVD’s;

• Electronic equipment;

• Dagga;

• Seized goods include dangerous weapons such as a sword, knives.

The acting Cluster Commander, Brigadier Henry Mollegai expressed his satisfaction with the execution of a successful joint initiative. He assures the Krugersdorp Cluster that similar initiatives will take place continuously throughout the Cluster.
