Become one of the watchful eyes

Sector 5(3) Neighbourhood Watch invites you to join them.

The Sector 5(3) Neighbourhood Watch armed with radios, reflector vests and a passion for crime prevention and safety invites you to join them in their bid to keep Middelvlei, Ten Acres and Hillside safe.

“We’re plot owners looking out for each other. We want people to know we are there for them and we want them to join us to make our area a safer place,” said Louise van Wyk, member of the Sector 5(3) Neighbourhood Watch.

The neighbourhood watch currently has 260 members and most of them are equipped with a radio for quick communication when something happens in their area. In addition they wear custom-made vests to identify them.

“Anyone can buy a reflective vest and claim they belong to the neighbourhood watch, but ours are custom made for easy identification,” Van Wyk added.

They have been operating for approximately five years and are going strong. They work hand in hand with a local security company (Mapogo) but emphasise they themselves are a neighbourhood watch and not a security company.

On the first Thursday of every month they have a meeting at Daniels Den in Main Road, Hillside.

In addition to crime awareness and prevention, the group of ladies called the Hillside Angels who collect non-perishables for members of the community who are less fortunate, also is part of the Sector 5(3) Neighbourhood Watch.

How to become a member:

• Attend one of the neighbourhood watch meetings

• Fill in a neighbourhood watch form

• Pay R400 for a radio (not a prerequisite)

• Details: Contact them via email sector5three@gmail.com
