REM pupil drums to NEA final

Learner makes it to final over 3000 participants.

Randfontein Primary School learner, Keamogetswe Modise participated in the National Eisteddfod Awards (NEA) and received prize money and a certificate for being a finalist.

Modise has a passion for African rhythms and is subsequently a Djembe drummer. He entered in the classical music style (vocal and instrumental) in the grade 4 to 7 category.

A Djembe drum is a West African drum. It is very loud, allowing it to be heard clearly as a solo instrument over a large percussion ensemble.

The competition was tough for young Modise as he was picked to be in the final over 3000 participants. This will make for the first step to becoming a successful master drummer like his idol, Mamady Keita (a West African Master Drummer).
