Pupils fall prey to tablet thieves

Be vigilant, vulnerable pupils are being targeted for their tablets ...

Sizakele Mvelase, a mother of two pupils aged 14 and 12 informed the Herald that criminals targeted and took her children’s tablet and cellphone.

The two pupils are siblings from Randfontein High School (RHS) and were on their way home when the incident occurred.

Mvelase adds, “They were approached by five men in a cream coloured quantum combi with no number plate registration. The men asked them where they were going, which they answered upon “home”. They then held their hands together, searched their bags and took her daughter’s tablet. They found nothing in her son’s bag, searched him and took his new cellphone.”

At the time of going to press, the mother of the pupils was still going to open a case at the police station. The Herald will be investigating this matter and will keep the community up to date. Mvelase said she reported this to the receptionist at the school.

Comment is awaited from the school.

Scholars should be vigilant and be aware of their surroundings and any suspicious persons.

This is also not the first time pupils were targeted for their tablets. In March of this year the Herald reported how two men in a silver/ blue Citroën C2 VTR 2 robbed a pupil of his tablet during the day.
