No load shedding for the week?

‘We do not anticipate any load shedding for the rest of the week’ — Eskom.

It sounds too good to be true – there is no planned load shedding for today (Monday 25 May) or the rest of the week power giant Eskom said.

“We have enough generating capacity to meet the demand in electricity. Eskom does not anticipate that there will be any load shedding for the rest of the week. We will provide an update should the situation change,” Acting Chief Executive Brian Molefe said.

Molefe added, “We are reviewing the manner in which our planned maintenance is done in order to ensure that load shedding is eliminated going forward.

“We appeal to South Africans continue to use electricity sparingly and make this a lifestyle. Homeowners and businesses can do so with just four steps: first, switching off geysers and pool pumps; second, switching off non-essential lights; third, efficient use of air-conditioners by keeping the room temperature at 23 degrees C; and finally, responding to the alerts on TV each evening.

“Commercial customers, particularly shopping centres and office blocks, can also make a big difference by switching off non-essential lights and not leaving office equipment such as photocopiers and computers in standby mode after hours.”

Eskom will provide regular updates on the status of the power system through all the media platforms.
