Truck tyre explodes killing man

'Tire rim struck the patients' skull' - paramedics.

A man was killed after a truck tyre exploded on the R54 near Fochville on Friday night.

According to ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring, “Paramedics arrived on scene and found the patient lying in a pool of blood next to the truck. On assessment, paramedics found that the patient had sustained severe injuries to his head and legs and was in a critical condition.

“Paramedics began their treatment as well as providing the patient with advanced life support interventions. After treatment was complete, the patient was transported to Mediclinic Potchefstroom for further treatment.

“Unfortunately the patient succumbed to his injuries in hospital and was declared dead. It is understood that the man was changing the truck tire when it exploded, causing the tire rim to collide with the patients skull.

“Local authorities were on scene for further investigations.”
