Youngster convicted of farm murder

A young farm worker robbed and murdered the farmer he worked for.

A suspect accused of a farm attack which led to the murder of a farmer in 2013 has finally been brought to book and has been served a life sentence with an additional 15 years imprisonment.

According to Sgt Audrey Sefara from the Westonaria police, a complaint of a farm attack in Kalbasfontein, Westonaria was received by the Westonaria police on 20 September, 2013.

“At the scene they found a white male of about 40 years of age who had multiple stab wounds to his upper body and had already passed on. He was laying on his back on the kitchen floor,” she explained.

Sefara explains further, “On further investigation, they found a knife with blood stains placed on top of a diesel pump which was not far from the garage. Police were also informed by farm workers that a silver GWM bakkie which was parked in the garage the previous night has been reported missing.

“The car’s tracker was activated. The air wing unit of the police received a signal of the tracking device in the vicinity of Carletonville. The vehicle was later spotted in Khutsong and four occupants were stopped by the police when the driver got out of the car and fled the scene.

“Backup was called for and ground officers played an important role in helping apprehending the remanding three suspects. The driver was tracked down and was found running into a shack in Khutsong.

“One of the suspects, a Anele Chris Muwale was directly linked to the crime. It was found that he used to work at the farm and he pleaded guilty to committing the crime. He was found guilty on two counts; life imprisonment for murder and a further 15 years for robbery with aggravating circumstances.”
