Newborn found dead next to school

'It was a boy. He was already dead when I found him.'

Mervin Losper, a worker at Randfontein Secondary School made a shocking discovery at a dump site in Toekomsrus when he went to throw out some garbage on Friday morning.

“I found a newborn baby in a green plastic bag. It was a boy. He already was dead,” Losper said.

The dump site is opposite the school.

Members of the Toekomsrus community have said that they will go to all ends to find the mother of the discarded infant.

DA councillor for Ward 8, Jetta Beaufort said she contacted nearly all the clinics in the vicinity in order to try and identify the mother.

Police came to the scene and took statements from Losper as well as Dina Bergh who were the first two people on scene.

Bergh was shaken by the horrific discovery and had tears in her eyes while giving police her statement.

“My heart just can’t take it,” she said.

After statements were taken, the Gauteng K9 Search and Rescue Unit arrived on scene.
