Off-road racing in her blood

Local takes second in major off-road championship.

Off-road racing might not have a long history in South Africa but the Junior National Championship has had a strong following since it was introduced almost a decade ago.

One of the youngsters passionate about the sport is Lindie Barnard from Carletonville who recently participated in the second round of the new Raslouw Academy Junior National Championship in the Mooi River area in KwaZulu-Natal.

The event attracted entries from all over the country and Lindie managed to take a second place in the junior quad class on her Barnard Vervoer Suzuki. Janco Joubert (also Suzuki) once again proved to be unstoppable in the category as he claimed his second victory.

For Lindie it seems off-road racing is in her blood as her mom Liezel is the current SA National Off-road Women champion – said to be the first one ever – and her brother Banie raced in the motorcycle category (65cc class) known as the baby class.

The 2015 Raslouw Academy Junior National Championship consists of five rounds and the third race, the Stella Beesfees Bush2Bush Juniors will take place at Stella in Vryburg on 6 June.
