Mayor reaches out to small businesses

'I ask that we work together hand-in-hand to place Randfontein on a positive growth trajectory.'

The Randfontein Local Municipality recently held a business networking session for small businesses.

The session was started with a breakfast buffet for all the visiting business owners in Randfontein.

A presentation was given by Jacob Ngakane, Interim Chairperson for the Education Bursary Trust Fund. Ngakane highlighted the importance of education in bulding a strong economy as well has builing up a large stock of human capital in Randfontein.

Ngakane said that more will be done with regards to bursaries for learners. In addition to this, he stated that the scope will also be broadened regarding the kind of vocations that will be funded.

John Ngxabi, from the Mohlakeng Business Forum spoke about the new mall opening in Mohlakeng.

Ngakane explained that it would be pointless to only give funding to those who want to become doctors and have a town full of doctors when the town really needs lawyers.

After Ngakane spoke, it was time for the Randfontein Executive Mayor, Mzi Khumalo. Khumalo urged business owners to work with the municipality in alleviating poverty as well as building up the Randfontein economy as well as it’s skill pool.

The mayor also shed some light on the situation with Eskom and assured business owners that Eskom will not pull the plug. He also took the opportunity to remind business owners that there is also a responsibility on them to pay their electricity accounts at the Randfontein Local Municipality.

“I ask that we work together hand-in-hand to place Randfontein on a positive growth trajectory.”
