R’fonteiner elected new West Rand DA Chairperson
... and reveals his vision going forward.
Evert du Plessis, councillor for Ward 6 in Randfontein has been elected the new West Rand chairperson of the Democratic Alliance (DA).
The new DA West Rand executive committee was elected at Randfontein High School.
The DA Ward 7 was in charge of entertainment and food. A tent was erected in which members of Ward 7 sold hot dogs to guests. The proceeds of the stall went to a feeding scheme initiated by Ward 7 at Hoërskool Riebeeckrand. They sponsor sandwiches to pupils of the school every Thursday.
About Du Plessis:
At the age of 16 he decided he wanted to get involved with politics. He joined the DA in 1998 when he was 24 years old. He started off as the chairperson of the Carletonville branch.
He has an honours degree in Political Sciences and wanted to join foreign affairs, national intelligence or military intelligence, however Du Plessis did not go into that direction and opted to go into party politics.
“Meeting Tony Leon in 1995 in Potchefstroom played a huge role in giving me direction.”
When asked about his vision now that he has been elected as the chairperson he said, “On the West Rand we have made a name for ourselves by delivering to our voters, listening to our voters and having excelled in growing our support.
“As new regional chair of the DA on the West Rand I am adamant we will double our efforts to get as many votes on the West Rand as we possibly can. We want to connect to even more of our voters to help them share the challenges we face and how the only solution for delivery on the West Rand will be to put in place a new DA government.
“We have shown what we can do in places like Midvaal and the Western Cape. We are in the process of developing an exciting, carefully considered new offer for 2016 based on the DA’s values of fairness, freedom and opportunity for the West Rand a road map to job creation, improved service delivery and developing infrastructure for 2016 that I am very excited about.
“After all the West Rand is my home and where my children are growing up.”
