West Rand crash leaves three injured

'Firemen worked tirelessly using the Jaws of Life to free the injured.'

Three people were injured, two critically so, in a head–on collision along Robert Broom in Krugersdorp on the West Rand on Saturday.

According to Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha “Paramedics and the fire department arrived at the scene and found the roadway littered with accident debris and the twisted frames of the vehicles, two critically wounded women were still trapped in the twisted frame of their car.

“Krugersdorp firemen worked tirelessly using the Jaws of Life to free the injured while paramedics clambered into the wreckages to stabilise the patients. After triaging it was found that the two women from the white vehicle was in a critical condition, while a passenger from the other vehicle sustained serious injuries.

“The quick and skillful work from the firemen extricating the patients, ensured that the medics were able to stabilise and immobilise the critically wounded on trauma boards before removing them from the twisted frame of the vehicle.

“One of the critically injured was airlifted to hospital while the other two patients were transported to a nearby hospital for the care that they required.”

Exact detail to the cause of the accident is still speculative and will remain a subject for police investigation.
