Botha takes R’fontein by storm

Local singer manages to get mature fans on the dance floor.

The funny, talented and dashing Anton Botha visited Randfontein at the Bedrock Pub and Grill recently and impressed the crowd with guitar solos, humour and a rugged voice that wowed the ladies.

It was a cosy and intimate evening with a fire going at the venue for fans to warm-up while watching Botha perform.

Fans sat around tables eagerly waiting for Botha to show. It wasn’t long before he began setting up his sound system and guitar that fans would later find he is a master of.

Botha entertained the crowd with a few covers as chosen by him and later he took requests from the crowd. The most notable of the songs played was Johnny Cash and AC/DC.

Botha’s renditions of songs had even the more mature fans in the crowd on their feet playing the air guitar and bobbing their heads. In fact, mature fans dominated the dance floor with dance moves dug out of the history books.

After every few songs, Botha would play an instrumental song where he would play the lead guitar. He swayed from side to side on the stage and just when fans thought they have heard and seen one of the best live guitar solos; Botha held his guitar behind his back and played an intricate solo.

Before he went off the stage for a break, he entertained the crowd with a bit of humour.

“I play music at all sorts of functions. What I enjoy most is playing at divorce parties,” he said before giving a few examples of the songs he would play.

“I will survive,” and “Jy soen my nie meer nie,” were just two of the many examples he gave.
