Foundation warms up Azaadville

International NGO gives Azaadville school stationery and accessories for winter.

Pupils at the Yusuf Daidoo Primary School were surprised with free stationery, beanies and gloves from the Al-Imdaad Foundation.

The Al-Imdaad Foundation is a Muslim-based foundation that deals with disaster relief and general humanitarian aid around the world. The head office is in South Africa and there are branches in the United Kingdom, Australia, Jordan, Indonesia and Kenya.

Since its inception in 2003, the foundation has left its humanitarian footprint in five different continents and 67 countries and the number has grown significantly in the past two years.

Handing out the free goodies was part of the foundation’s Operation Winter Warmth project in which warm clothing and blankets are given out, especially to less fortunate children.

Mohamed Chodree, representative for the foundation, was at the school handing out the goodies. Incidentally, Mohamed used to be a pupil at the school many years ago and had a chance to see his teachers there.

The first class to receive the stationery and winter accessories was 6C, Narsin Makan’s class who taught Mohamed when he was much younger.

Smiles were seen all around and the school’s principal, Dr AE Ismail, was excited.

“We actually did this a bit late due to the crisis in Syria at the moment so we decided to hand out the stationery in the second term and now the children also get some nice winter wear with their stationery,” Mohamed said.
