West Rand accident leaves one dead, two injured

'A report from the scene indicated that a vehicle rear-ended a bakkie carrying a cement mixer.'

One person was tragically killed while two others were seriously injured in a snarl-up along the R28 near Cedar Lodge on Saturday night.

According to Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha “A report from the scene indicated that a vehicle rear-ended a bakkie carrying a cement mixer, the implement came off the bakkie and landed in the oncoming lane. An oncoming vehicle traveling past allegedly swerved, hit the pavement and overturned.

“Paramedics and the fire services arrived at the scene and found the occupants from the overturned vehicle still trapped in the mangled wreckage.

“After triaging the injured, it was found that a passenger in the overturned vehicle had tragically died on impact while two others were seriously injured.

“While firemen worked for about ninety minutes to free the injured, medics clambered into the wreckage to stabilise the patients. After the injured were extricated and skilfully immobilised on trauma boards, paramedics transported them to a local hospital for the care that they required.”
