Biker killed in horror crash with truck

A biker lost his life when he T-boned into a truck on the R41.

A 30-year-old man and biker died in what has been described as a horrific collision with a truck on the R41 on Friday morning.

The biker who was travelling with two fellow biker friends were on their way to Randfontein on the R41 (Randfontein Road) from Kagiso to attend the annual Randfontein State Of The Town Address.

The bike caught on fire when it T-boned the truck while the man’s head is believed to have exploded inside his helmet from the impact.

The road leading up to the SPCA entrance is an uphill and traffic officers on scene is speculating that the deceased must have been travelling at a high speed – a reason why the truck driver possibly didn’t see them coming up the hill.

“When ER24 paramedics arrived on scene, they found the smouldering wreckage of the motorcycle lying in the middle of the road. A truck had stopped a short distance away from the motorcycle. The lifeless body was found lying halfway beneath the heavy vehicle. When paramedics assessed the patient, they found that the patient had already succumbed to his multiple fatal injuries,” Russel Meiring, ER24 spokesperson said.

Angry friends and family of the biker tried to get to the driver of the truck, blaming him for the accident but police and officials separated them to avoid confrontation.

The road was still closed by 1pm and traffic diverted while police waited for pathology to take the body away.
