Hospital without hot water

Hospital staff allegedly are forced to boil water so patients wouldn't have to bath in cold water.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) visited Carletonville Hospital last Wednesday (25 March) where it was found that the hospital had been without hot water since January.

Ina Cilliers, DA Constituency Head of Merafong said, “Despite reports of contractors being assigned to look into the problem, to date, no clear indication was given as to when the problem would be resolved, or what caused the crisis in the first place.

“Currently the hospital staff are forced to boil water so patients wouldn’t have to bath in cold water.

“The responsibility of maintaining health facilities in Gauteng lies with the Department of Infrastructure Development, headed by MEC Nandi Mayathula-Khoza, and this department has become infamous for its uncaring attitude, careless spending, missed deadlines and costly disputes with suppliers.”

The DA now calls on Mayathula-Khoza to restore order at Carletonville Hospital without further delay.

In the interim, the DA will submit written questions to Mayathula-Khoza to determine the cause of the hospital not having any hot water.
