Paralysed man, 52, gets wheelchair

Stanley now is able to get around after receiving a wheelchair.

DA councillor Nozipho Ndlela’s heart broke when she met a paralysed Mzikayise Stanley Sityatha a few months ago; she could not ignore the difficulties he faces every day.

Stanley, 52, was born paralysed from the waist down and relies on his sister Nomsa Sityatha to look after him.

“I found Stanley just sitting on the ground in their front yard. His legs and arms had tissue damage from the years of dragging himself on the ground as he tried to get around,” Nozipho explained.

According to the councillor, Stanley’s sister has been doing her best to accommodate him but without a wheelchair, taking him to collect his grant is very difficult.

After meeting Stanley, Nozipho and other Ward 11 councillors took it upon themselves to acquire a wheelchair for him.

“Managing to help this family has humbled me and we are happy to serve all the people of this town. We still need to get Stanley knee and arm guards to protect the already damaged skin and we ask the community to help us with these items,” she said.

The family, especially Stanley who was all smiles after he received his wheelchair on Friday (20 March) would like to thank the DA councillors for the wheelchair and support.
