VIDEO: Another abnormal truck causes a commotion

'They did not follow procedure' — Randfontein Traffic Police.

Another abnormal truck caused quite a commotion in Randfontein this time whilst travelling on Homestead Avenue on Monday – the second incident of its kind reported in just two weeks.

The truck was stopped in its tracks by Randfontein Traffic Police who claim that Gauteng Traffic Police did not follow procedure with regards to escorting an abnormal load truck.
Officer Ntswaki Seleke who was on scene said, “They are supposed to make Randfontein Traffic Police aware that they are passing through. They are also supposed to ask permission from Randfontein Local Municipality to pass and also so they can take the company’s details so that they can be billed for using Randfontein Roads because ultimately they damage them when coming through. They did not do any of this.”
Seleke continued “They are a new unit from Province. They don’t know the proper procedures. They said if we have a problem, we should call their director.”
Silas Makeneng, Superintendent for the Randfontein Traffic Police was also approached for comment; he also alleged that, “They did not follow procedure. There is a bit of confusion. They are new and don’t know procedure. We need to sort this issue out with Gauteng Traffic.”
The driver of the escort truck on scene claimed, “I know that you have to get permission but they told us that they were Gauteng Traffic Police which means that they do not have to get permission.”
While Gauteng Traffic was on scene, an accident occurred on Homelake going Southbound. The Gauteng Traffic Police officer who was directing traffic just before where the abnormal truck came to a halt had left the position he was standing in when the herald got on scene.
