Tips for World Salt Awareness Month

'Too much salt can lead to high blood pressure and also water retention in the body,' — Dietitian.

ER24 raises awareness for the World Salt Awareness Month in March by giving the public a few tips on how to limit salt and lead a healthy, balanced lifestyle.

In the spirit of World Salt Awareness Month and the future, ER24 is urging people to eat wisely, exercise, and rest.

They consulted dietitian, Louise Bembridge-Carter from the Morningside Sports Medicine Centre who warned against diets and stated that, “a balanced lifestyle is getting the balance between healthy eating, excersise, sleep, stress, and family right.”

She continues to give benefits of eating healthy and exercising, “eating well can improve diabetes by helping with glucose control. It can lower cholesterol and prevent cardiovascular disease.” ER24 explains that a healthy diet and exercise always work hand in hand.

With regards to salt Bembridge-Cater says, “it is not a good idea to have too much salt in general. Too much salt can lead to high blood pressure and also water retention in the body.”

ER24 deems it wise to cook with salt rather than adding it to food afterwards. In addition to this, they say that canned food, processed food, and junk food as well as cured meats contain a lot of salt.
