Zero tolerance policy at this year’s show

'Strong action will be taken against anyone found to be drunk or fighting in public'.

Organisers of the Randfontein Show confirmed there will be a zero tolerance policy.

“Security marshals and police will apply zero tolerance with regard to the abuse of alcohol. Strong action will be taken against anyone found to be drunk or fighting in public,” Marcelle Mans show coordinator, said in a statement.

“Strict liquor laws govern events like these and it should be noted that no person is allowed to bring their own liquor into the grounds or walk around the grounds carrying alcohol.

“There are several demarcated areas where Show visitors can enjoy a drink and a meal. These areas are the Kuierskuur (C field), Kobus Se Gat (B field), Rugby Club Beer Garden, Van Loveren Wine Tent (A field) and Die Ware Wingerd Deli & Plaaskombuis (Show Hall).

“No person may bring liquor, firearms, drugs or weapons into the Show grounds. Gatekeepers and security personnel are within their rights to search bags and containers. CCTV cameras are located in numerous areas around the grounds and anyone found breaking the law will be arrested on the spot.”

And as far as load shedding is concerned, Mans said they are prepared.

“We are prepared for possible load shedding and we don’t think it will affect the fun factor should it happen. Food stalls cook on gas so we can still eat and our stages, as well as the Show office and other vital areas will be equipped with generators.”

Regarding safety, Mans said, “Safety and security for exhibitors and visitors are an all-imporant factor so we work hand in hand with local law-enforcement agencies to ensure the safety and enjoyment of everyone on the grounds.

“There will be plenty of safe parking and certain paid-parking areas will be manned by Randfontein Cricket Club, Randfontein Rugby Club and the Randfontein Ringbal Club members. Clubs use this opportunity to raise funds, so the public is asked to please support them. Parking on the grounds (A rugby field) costs R25 and outside the grounds in specially marshalled areas costs R20.

“Parking for disabled persons is available on the grounds; entrance through gate one in Homestead Avenue. We would like to thank members of the police, West Rand District Municipality (WRDM) Emergency Services (EMS), Randfontein Public Safety (Traffic) and members of the WRDM Disaster Management team for their cooperation in managing an event of this magnitude.”

There is also an abundence of toilet facilities.

“We have hired portable toilet units and there are also permanent toilets under the pavilion and next to the Show Hall.

“There are also toilet facilities for the disabled next to the Show Hall and close to the Pigeon Clubhouse.”
With just days to go until the event kicks off on Wednesday 4 March there is a buzz in the air and it’s all systems go.
