Free mobile crèche in R’fontein

'We want to ensure our children receive quality education even from a young age'

Gauteng Province’s Social Development sector through the office of MEC Faith Mazibuko has brought a mobile crèche to Dwarskloof, Randfontein.

A bus with a fully stocked kitchen, sick bay and toilet has been converted and serves as the mobile crèche.

Patricia Matuwane, MMC for Social Development in Randfontein chose Dwarskloof specifically as there is no early child development (ECD) programme in the area.

The land the mobile crèche is on was donated by Pastor Johannes Rampitsa from The Lord Our Saviour Church.

The mobile crèche will be run by Kumaka Early Development. All the staff are trained and qualified on which Matuwane commented, “We want to make sure our children receive quality education.

“This also is an opportunity to create jobs in Randfontein. All the teachers are from Randfontein. They are qualified but had trouble finding work in their line of study and now they have a job.”

The project started about two weeks ago and will come to an end after 12 months.

The mobile crèche is for ages from two to five, but also will make allowances for six-year-old children who could not register for school in time.

Approximately 37 children already are attending the crèche but Shaune Lee, region coordinator of Kumaka Early Development stated she expects around 70 children in total.

The crèche is free of charge and all parents need to do is provide standard documents such as identification documents, proof of address, and their child’s birth certificate.
