Fireman risks life at accident scene

Brave fireman sustains injury while attempting to free driver trapped in truck.

A brave rescue attempt was witnessed when a truck travelling towards Randfontein collided with a stationary truck on the R28 near Mohlakeng at approximately 10am on Thursday.

According to Denver Ramnarain, Founder and Executive Manager of QRS Services, “It seems like the brakes of the truck colliding into the stationary truck had failed but nothing has been confirmed.”

Evidence on scene shows that the stationary truck had its traffic triangle out as per traffic law and was parked there since 4am this morning.

The driver of the truck who crashed  was trapped inside the cab of his own truck and had to be cut out by the Fire Department with aid from Emergency Services, QRS Services and ER24 and Powergate Towing. The entire process took more than an hour. The formerly trapped man eventually emerged with blood covering his entire left arm. His condition has not yet been confirmed as he was taken for treatment at Lenmed hospital.

In a tragic turn of events, a fireman, who was trying to cut and rescue the man trapped in the truck’s cab, lost his footing on the cab’s step and fell to the ground on his back. He was taken to the QRS Services ambulance who estimated that he might have a rib fracture and was shortly after taken to the hospital.
