Feeding programme growing stronger

'We have succeeded in making a positive difference in the lives of many' – Carryou.

The Carryou Ministry farming venture at Vleikop on the outskirts of Randfontein is going from strength to strength.

Carryou Ministry is a organisation that supports orphans, the poor and many struggling families in the Randfontein area. Their goal is to make sure no one goes hungry. They have been helping and educating the community in cultivating and growing food for themselves.

The end result?

“Not only were we able to provide fresh, healthy vegetables to feeding programmes run by Carryou Ministry, we also supplied cabbage, spinach, beetroot and carrots to a nearby crèche and to around 60 members of the local community who assist in the vegetable garden,” caretaker Stephen Ngakane said.

“All the vegetables are grown organically, using cow manure supplied to us by a neighbour and I honestly can say, we have succeeded in making a positive difference in the lives of many,” Stephen explained.

The summer harvest is drawing to a close and winter crops are now in the ground.

Many of the crops they plan to harvest in winter are planted already and everyone involved have learned a great deal about farming through the programme.

“I am confident we will do even better this year. I hope we soon will be able to use more of our land to farm, as the poverty in the area is high and there is a great need to provide food for the hungry,” Stephen added.
