What to do during load shedding

Books, braai or board games? Take your pick.

The national power supplier Eskom has South Africans up in arms following planned and unplanned load shedding.

Although times are tough for South Africans and it is difficult for the general public not to complain about the current state of things, there are a few ways to beat the load shedding blues.

The herald compiled a list of activities residents can do during load shedding.

When the lights go out, pick up an old book and get reading. Some fun titles to read, especially during load shedding include Dark Apostle, Heart of Darkness, It was a Dark and Stormy Night, and the Dark Net.

Not a fan of books? Why not play some board games? Popular board games include chess, checkers, Cluedo, Monopoly and Scrabble. For the more adventurous there are Decent: Journeys in the Dark, Dark World, and lastly Dark Tower.

During load shedding busy business people also can catch up on admin by candlelight.

Sport fans who have tablets and remembered to charge them can check the latest sports scores, updates and profiles.

The most common activity during load shedding for South Africans is to braai and have a beer (while complaining about Eskom and load shedding). This time also can be used to catch up on family time and is a time where every citizen no matter their background can feel a sense of unison in the dark.
