25 Injured in major collision

'Taxi apparently suffered mechanical failure causing it to collide with the other vehicles'.

More than 20 people were injured after eight vehicles collided on Main Reef Road West of Johannesburg on Monday.

According to Russel Meiring, ER24 spokesperson “Paramedics from the Johannesburg West branch, along with other services, arrived on scene and found eight vehicles that were scattered along the roadside. Heavy traffic began to backup due to the collision.

“On assessment, paramedics discovered that 25 people from various vehicle had sustained minor injuries. Fortunately no-one sustained any fatal injuries in the collision.

“Paramedics treated the patients for their injuries and thereafter transported them to nearby hospitals for further treatment.

“It is understood that a taxi had apparently suffered mechanical failure, causing it to collide with the other vehicles.

“Local authorities were on scene for further investigations.”
