One seriously injured in head-on collision

'The person who caused the collision sped off' - witness.

A driver sustained serious injuries following a nasty head-on collision on the R28 on Monday.

According to Gareth Robinson, a witness on scene, one of two vehicles involved – a bakkie – was heading South-bound on the R28 when another driver slammed dead on their brakes. The bakkie then swerved out of the way into the direction of the island in the middle of the road, allegedly lost control of the vehicle and drove over the island to collide head-on with a white BMW heading north.

Both vehicles are believed to be written off and the driver of the bakkie was rushed to hospital. According to paramedics he was in a serious but not critical condition.

On the side of the bakkie, there were blood splatters from the door all the way to the tail end. The driver and passenger of the BMW were not seriously injured and were walking around the scene after the collision.
The driver who slammed on their brakes was allegedly tailed by another witness to the collision in order to bring them back to the scene but failed to do so.
