Facebook is back online after being unavailable for over an hour this morning (Tuesday 27 January).
Although the causes of the breakdown remain unconfirmed some have hinted that the current snowstorms on the East Coast of the United States (New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut), where key facebook servers are located, might be to blame.
Since facebook acquired Instagram it was also offline for a period of time.
Hacking group Lizard Squad have claimed that their hacking abilities caused the social media meltdown but facebook denied it, blaming “a change that affected [their] configuration systems’ for the breakdown.
Meanwhile it seems that facebookers ran to twitter to cry about it, fast making the hashtags #facebookdown, #instagramdown and #ThingsIDidWhenFacebookWasDown trend.
