Police make 74 arrests in one weekend

A productive weekend for Randfontein police with arrests ranging from fraud to rape.

Randfontein police made their presence felt the weekend before last having made 74 arrests.

An array of crimes resulted in arrests ranging from shoplifting to assault and domestic violence. Other crimes such as rape, fraud and motor vehicle theft were also included in the arrest round-up.

In addition to this, five suspects were arrested for driving under the influence. Suspects were also arrested for drunk and disorderly behaviour and crossing railway lines while under the influence of alcohol. At least 10 drug related offenders were also apprehended.

Stolen property was also confiscated from suspects by officers on duty during this time.

According to Captain Appel Ernst, spokesperson for the Randfontein Police, “The acting Station Commander, Colonel Marius Smit expressed his satisfaction with the members’ determination to rid the streets of Randfontein of criminals.”
