Xenophobic attacks spread to R’fontein

'Go back to Somalia, this is not your home' - South African to foreigner.

Xenophobic attacks have spread to Randfontein after foreign nationals were threatened in a block of flats named Marida Heights by at least 10 people on Porgess Street near the CBD on Friday.

Witnesses also state a Randfontein police officer was involved.

“One of the guys pointed our people with a gun. There were more than 10 people here. A fight happened and one of our people were beaten up by some of the South Africans. They said that they are here because we are killing their people, but we did nothing,” Tamiru Desta Ejajo, a witness told the herald.

“The police came and chased the attackers away. They arrested one man but let him go when nobody was looking,” he claimed.

“One of the policemen told us that we have to go back home and one said that he will shoot us,” he continued.

The foreign nationals stated that when they generally encounter South Africans, they are told that they should “go back to Somalia, this is not your home.”
