Tree poses threat to Greenhills power supply

Could the Greenhills dead tree cause another power outage?

A dead tree on the corner of Convent and Crane Roads is leaning over a substation posing a great threat to Greenhills’ power supply.

And, it seems to get more and more bent as time goes on.

The tree is located within the Greenhills Stadium and has a thin wall separating it from the substation. The tree also seems tall enough to cause damage to passing cars should it fall before the municipality prunes the tree.

The Randfontein Local Municipality emergency after hours number was called by the herald to report the matter when we were told someone would be sent out to inspect the leaning tree however, the time frame of this was not indicated.

Greenhills had a similar situation last year on 26 November on the corner of Kenneth Road and Mimosa Avenue where a large tree collapsed during a storm and fell on power lines causing a massive power outage in Greenhills.

Municipal workers worked a full day in order to restore the electricity. The repair time, should the leaning over the substation could possibly be longer considering that it is not mere power lines it is falling on but a substation.
